Dr. Alick Isaacs is a scholar at the Shalom Hartman Institute Center for Advanced Jewish Studies, serves as Director of their Advanced Beit Midrash Program and is a lecturer at the Melton Centre for Jewish Education at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He is an educational philosopher who is interested in the ways in which ideas can be relevant and meaningful in contemporary Jewish life. In recent years his research and writing has focused on the implications of Israel for Jewish life and peace. After settling in Israel in 1986, Dr. Isaacs earned his PhD in Jewish History from the Hebrew University. He has just completed a book entitled “Prophetic Peace” which – following upon his experiences as a combat soldier in the Second Lebanon War – re-evaluates the place of peace in Jewish thought. Alick lives in Jerusalem with his wife Shuli and their five children.
