Category Archives: Weiss, Rabbi Dr. Abner

Rabbi Dr. Abner Weiss has a very high profile in the Jewish communities of North America, Africa, Australia and Europe. He has occupied leading pulpits in South Africa, New York, California, and Great Britain. Rabbi Weiss has headed the Rabbinical Court of Los Angeles and the renowned London School of Jewish Studies and its Rabbinical Seminary. He has held the rank of Full Professor of Jewish Studies, University of Natal, South Africa; Adjunct Professor of Jewish Philosophy, Yeshiva University, New York and Visiting Professor of Jewish Studies, School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, England. He has published several books and many articles in the fields of Jewish philosophy, ethics, observance and mental health. But Rabbi Weiss is not merely an academic. He has headed a national rabbinic organization in North America, been President of the Board of Rabbis of Southern California, served on the Executive Board of the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles and was, in 1995, the rabbinical award winner of the Council of Jewish Federations of North America, in recognition of his leadership and devoted service to the Jewish community. Rabbi Weiss has been in great demand on the popular lecture circuit. He has lectured on the Kabbalah to large audiences of lay people in North America, England and Australia. Rabbi Weiss co-designed and facilitated The Spiritual Course, a three-day workshop that used the principles of kabbalistic psychology for healing, growth and self-realization. These workshops were well attended by a wide cross section of the community, spiritual leaders, mental health professionals, and Jewish and non-Jewish lay people. Dr. Weiss holds one Ph.D. in philosophy, on the thought of the Great Rabbi Loewe of Prague, a preeminent Master of Kabbalah, and another in clinical psychology. He is a licensed mental health professional, currently practicing in the State of California. Rabbi Dr. Abner Weiss is thus uniquely credentialed to speak on the interface of Kabbalah and psychology.
